Two precious souls were saved and many more were restored and spiritually revitalized during Minda Street's 2009 Gospel Revival centered around the theme of New Self Power is Mine in 2009. Dr. Olu Shabazz, visiting guest evangelist from the Harlem Church of Christ in New York, certainly did his job by allowing the Holy Spirit to speak through him by powerfully proclaiming the gospel message during the four-day meeting. His dynamic and sound doctrine based sermons had a huge impact literally stirring the souls and spirits of everyone in attendance. Dr Shabazz's simple ease and style of preaching helped give clear and simple understandings to complex issues. His experience as a knowledgeable and sound doctrine evangelist also allowed him to expound spiritual texts showing how God's New Self Power can bless a Christian living in their New Self. More than 350 people took part in a community-wide Memorial Day barbecue honoring Habitat for Humanity as well as the recent six families who have received homes and have moved into the Minda Street area. The barbecue, hosted by the Minda Street Church of Christ, helped honor the entire Habitat for Humanity organization to include its staff, board directors and volunteers. The six recipient families of HFH homes were also recognized and were each presented with a family basket. Minda Street church organizers created an open environment for the entire neighborhood to get to know each other. Families enjoyed free hamburgers and hot dogs, drinks and other refreshments, air castle entertainment for the children as well as good ole’ gospel singing by the church chorus.
